59-year-old Peter Marrington of Woolmer Road, North London has been jailed for 21 years after being found guilty of historic child sexual abuse dating back to the 1980s and continuing into the early 2000s.
Three women had come forward to accuse Peter Marrington of sexual abuse, including rape, when they were little girls – the youngest of them being just six when she was first abused.
The trial, which took place on Monday, the 19th of August at Chelmsford Crown Court found Peter Marrington guilty of three counts of child rape and four counts of indecent assault; he was sentenced to 21 years in prison and was also issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Marrington was initially investigated and arrested in 2016 after a report was received by Essex Police outlining Marrington’s child sexual abuse from the 1980s to the early 2000s. Peter Marrington denied the allegations against him. It has taken eight years for Peter Marrington’s victims to see their abuser jailed.
Speaking after the trial, PC Christopher Longhurst, investigating officer in the case said:
“It takes a strong person to wait eight years for their perpetrator to be found guilty of the horrendous crimes he’d put them through.
“Each of these victims have been patient throughout the delays in court and I’d like to commend them for their patience and strength. Their bravery has meant that this dangerous man is unable to harm anyone else.”
